2022 playing rules quick reference
- Time limit of 2 hours, 40 minutes. No new inning after 2 hours, 20 minutes.
- Courtesy runners for pitchers - available any time if incoming pitcher is going to warm up.
- Courtesy runners for catchers - available after two outs.
Emergency player update (updated May 13, 2022)
- Emergency players are available in the regular season if a team
- Is short to start the game
- Becomes short for any reason including injury, ejection or players leaving early.
- Call-ups should be used whenever possible. Emergency players are intended to keep the game going for those at the field.
- With eight regular players, a team may add one emergency player.
- With seven regular players, a team must add one emergency player and may add a second emergency player.
- A team with six or fewer regular players must forfeit the game.
- An emergency player:
- May be any registered member not already in the game
- May play any position except for pitcher or catcher
- After the fourth inning,
- Is an automatic out in the batting order and does not bat
- Is the first available courtesy runner unless already on base
- If a regular player arrives during the game,
- With two emergency players, the regular player hits in the eighth spot, one emergency player and one automatic out are removed, and the ninth spot continues to be an automatic out.
- With one emergency player, the regular player hits in the last spot and the emergency player and the automatic out and removed from the game.
- If one of the two emergency players is removed and is not replaced, the team must go through the batting order once before removing the second automatic out.
- The league may limit the use of emergency players if it is abused.
